Discover Your Roots, Uncover Your Story
Discover Your Roots, Uncover Your Story
Although Unearthed Genealogy was formally formed in 2023, Amber Jackman started her journey with genealogy back in 2013. While researching her own family history mysteries, Amber not only uncovered her own previously unknown family history, but helped newly identified family members identify their birth families.
Through word of mouth and various Facebook groups, it was well-known that Amber was open to helping other adoptees find some answers about their birth families. From there she started helping person after person discover where they came from. It became something that she is extremely passionate about and has a natural knack for. She has spent over 10,000 hours researching and even more hours gaining the knowledge needed to effectively perform searches and gather any information for her clients.
Since then, she has successfully assisted adoptees with researching information about their birth family and their birth stories. But her experience is not only tailored to people touched by adoption. She loves helping people find out about their ancestors and where they come from. There is nothing better than having a collection of historical records, pictures, and stories going back decades and sometimes even to the 1600s! Utilizing traditional research methods along with genetic genealogy, she can perform general genealogical research, build family trees, and identify birth family members. She is able to take on cases for 48 US states (excluding Alaska and Hawaii) as well as Canadian and Italian Genealogy.
Her passion for Genealogy and solving family history mysteries makes her an essential part of the Genealogy Community. She especially enjoys assisting adoptees in identifying their Birth Family members and complex/ brick wall cases. To date, she has worked with hundreds of people eager to learn more about their family histories.
She has completed both the Genealogical Principles and Genealogy Practicum Course through Boston University, as well as Volunteered for SearchAngels.org from 2020 to 2024. She actively continues her education and experience through independent learning and in the field practice as well as is looking forward to pursuing her BCG Certification in the near future.

We charge an hourly rate of $35, subject to hour minimums. The number of hours needed depends on the scope and complexity of your project. Please visit our Pricing page for more information.
DNA testing through Ancestry.com® is required for all adoption and non-parental event related searches and highly recommended for all other searches. DNA testing is paid directly through the respective websites and may include processing, shipping, and handling fees.
Simple cases can take a few hours, while more complex cases such as comprehensive family tree research and Birth Family searches can take much longer. It depends on the depth of research you are looking for, availability/location of records, DNA testing time frames, if the records exist/can be accessed, and the amount of relevant DNA matches you have (where applicable).
Often if records need to be obtained from Vital Records, local or State Archives, or the like, the wait time will be dependent on the departments time frame (for example, it can take a few months to receive a pre-adoption birth certificate from a state with open adoption records. You will NOT be charged for the wait time; research hours will resume upon receipt of the record).
We will first discuss your research goals and gather background information from you and determine if we feel we can be of help in your case. We will then discuss expectations, pricing, and agreed upon contracted hours for your case. After the contract is signed and a 50% deposit is paid, we will begin with reviewing your background information, DNA testing results (where applicable), creating a research plan to maximize your hours, and research.
All research is documented, and all findings noted, including conflicting and negative findings. Sources are cited. We will enter findings into your Ancestry Tree (where applicable) and/or compile Family Group Sheets. We will compile a summary of findings and suggestions for further research. Upon completion of your contracted hours, you will receive a final invoice and upon receipt of payment in full, the final report will be emailed to you in PDF format within 3 business days.
Unfortunately, there are times when specific information cannot be found due to limitations in historical records, lack of DNA matches, time constraints, and access to sealed documents (depending on laws in that area). Be assured, I will exhaust every resource I can access in your contracted time in order to provide you with as much available information as I can.
Accepted forms of payment include Zelle (free), Venmo (additional fee), and PayPal (additional fee):
More payment options coming in the future. We do not accept checks.
We understand personal and/or sensitive information can be revealed during the duration of the search. You can trust that all information pertaining to living people will be held in strict confidentiality and not made available on any public avenues.
